Country Skillet Cafe in Bourbon, MO, carries the warm, straightforward vibe of a classic roadside diner along Route 66 with a local twist. It’s the kind of spot where the aroma of fresh coffee and hearty home-cooked meals fills the air early in the day, making it a natural stop for breakfast and lunch for folks passing through or locals grabbing a familiar, comforting meal.

The atmosphere feels friendly and unpretentious, with a dining room that welcomes families, road trippers, and anyone looking for a reliable plate of down-to-earth food. The service runs smoothly and seems genuinely attentive without being rushed—staff members work together efficiently and with a sense of care that’s apparent the moment you sit down.

Breakfast here has a solid reputation, especially for classic items like biscuits and gravy served with real cream on the side for coffee — a detail that locals appreciate for adding an old-fashioned touch. But lunchtime brings its own draw with a lineup of filling sandwiches and burgers, including a reliably classic cheeseburger dressed up with crispy sidewinder fries, and sandwiches like the Philly cheese steak and the Reuben that are generously portioned and served hot. There’s a notable variety of sides, from homemade cucumber salad to seasoned green beans, which complement the meals well and keep the experience true to its homestyle roots.

Country Skillet Cafe fits well into the small-town rhythm of Bourbon. It’s not a flashy place, but it fills a clear niche: a stop that feels dependable when you want a no-nonsense, well-made meal with enough space to spread out and relax. Morning visits tend to come with fewer waits and a peaceful start to the day, while the lunch hour welcomes those meeting halfway or fueling up on a road trip.

For locals and visitors alike, this cafe feels like a straightforward gathering spot. Whether you’re there for a quick coffee and biscuit in the morning or a hot sandwich with friendly service at midday, it suits those who appreciate straightforward hospitality and food that favors comfort over flair.

Imagine a Cracker Barrel, but local and not corporate. The breakfast is absolutely amazing. The staff is professional and 100% on point. So much so, that other restraunts should talk to the folks training/ managing the staff to learn from them. My favorite thing about this place for breakfast is the real cream served on the side when you get coffee. Can't say enough good things about this place.

Drove to Sullivan early this morning hoping to get a load of sand at Havin’s. They were closed. On the way back home I started to get hungry. My first thought was to go onto Shelly’s in Cuba followed by its Monday so Shelly’s is closed. By then, driving on Route 66 I was almost to Bourbon. So I decided to stop at the 66 Country Skillet Cafe. Looking around the dining room and reading their our story paper, it was obvious that this place was locally owned. Still not sure what type or size of eggs they use. Look at the picture that is just two eggs! Large slice of ham and a huge portion of home fries. And the side of gravy eaten with the biscuit would rank as the third best restaurant gravy I’ve had. Well worth the price as supporting local family owned businesses changes the world one meal at a time.

Great food, great amount of food the cost. Service was excellent. We went at 10am on a Tuesday. We didnt have to to wait to be sat or anything. Food came quick, and was hot and fresh. Everyone's order was right. My family all lives about 2 hours from each other so we meet 1/2 way and this was a great stop. We plan on coming back but to try lunch next time. There was plenty of parking at that time of day too.

Just ate here for the first time and had a fabulous experience! Country friend steak was best I ever had! Such a value-I’ll have two more meals from my leftovers. The girls working were amazing, helping each other out, friendly, efficient. You got a great thing there, we’ll be back and encourage others to come as well!

Enjoyed a delicious lunch! I had the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich with a side of au jus and cucumber salad. My friend had the French Dip with au jus and mac-n-cheese. It was all very good and served nice and hot with a friendly smile by our server Carlee. Unfortunately we didn't save room for dessert, because it all looked amazing!

Tried it out on the way home from an outing at Heartland Farms. Nice little restaurant in a new strip mall. The waitress was friendly and welcoming and the food was great. I'm always on the hunt for a really good roast beef and their open faced roast beef with mashed potatoes was the best I have ever had. Tender lean roast beef in the best gravy and homemade mashed potatoes. My son-in-law got the Reuben and he said it was really good as was his cucumber salad. The fried bologna sandwich my daughter had was excellent as well. It's a bit of a drive from our house but we will definitely be back.

Nice, friendly small-town feel. My husband got the open faced roast beef sandwich and said it was delicious, just like in his little hometown. I got a taco salad and they accommodated me by making it chicken instead of beef. It was amazing! We also had their very berry pie with a scoop of ice cream and it was also wonderful! Great crust.
